Calgary-Foothills byelection voters choose MLA for 3rd time in a year

Some people heading to the polls today in Calgary-Foothills are angry they have to vote again for the third time in a year.

Longtime political watchers think the lingering anger over former premier Jim Prentice's decision to resign on election night could hurt the Progressive Conservatives today.

Rosemary Sargent, who voted Thursday morning, says there's a lot of voter fatigue — and disappointment.

"Jim Prentice won over 7,000 votes and that was a representation of how highly this riding thought of him, I believe. So, to have lost that talent in the legislature was tough for the people who live here," she said.

Calgary-Foothills resident Pavandip Jaswal says he's basing his choice on the economy.

"I think it was mismanaged before so we need a change. I wouldn't rely too much on oil, right? From past experience, we know that it's volatile, right. It changes constantly," he said.

Polls are open today until 8 p.m. MT.
