Calgary hiker found dead near Lake Louise

Woman reported missing in N.W.T. now located

The body of a male hiker from Calgary has been found north of Lake Louise.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, the Lake Louise RCMP were informed by Parks Canada that a group of hikers had discovered the body of a deceased man near Turquoise Lake, about 20 kilometres north of Lake Louise.

The RCMP and Parks Canada were not able to recover the body of the 65-year-old man from Calgary until the next day due to darkness.

Mounties said the man appeared to be a solo hiker who had been tenting overnight. It is believed the man died when he fell while scrambling on steep, rocky terrain.

Parks Canada and the RCMP offered condolences to the family and friends of the hiker.

No further information will be released at this time, officials said.
