Calgary hit by 8 of Alberta's 13 flu-related deaths so far
Calgary continues to be Alberta's influenza epicentre, now accounting for more than half of the province's seasonal flu cases and nearly two-thirds of flu-related deaths.
Alberta Health Services says 1,242 of the 2,478 lab-confirmed cases of influenza A and B this season have come in the Calgary health zone.
Calgary also accounts for eight of the 13 flu-related deaths across the province.
Three deaths were recorded in the Edmonton health zone so far this season and two in the south zone.
There have been 632 people admitted to hospital with lab-confirmed influenza across Alberta, with 364 of those in the Calgary zone, compared to 143 in Edmonton.
The flu numbers include lab-confirmed cases between Aug. 28 and Dec. 9.
More than a million vaccinations
About 464,000 people in the Calgary zone have received the influenza vaccine this season.
Provincewide, nearly 1.1 million doses of the flu vaccine have been administered.
A total of 1.17 million people were vaccinated in Alberta during the last flu season.
