Calgary homicide detectives on scene at suspicious death in southeast

Rodney Conway homicide: suspect charged with 2nd-degree murder

Homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death in the city's southeast.

A man's body was found by a passer-by outside of a strip mall on Macleod Trail on Saturday morning.

"We received a call, it was termed as an 'unknown problem' to EMS — there was a third party caller who saw someone who appeared to require the services of emergency services," said EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux.

Brideaux says when EMS arrived at the scene outside of Chetlen Auto Tech around 8 a.m., the man was declared deceased.

Investigators taped off the area around the strip mall and canvassed the area for CCTV footage.

Although police can't say exactly how the man died, Duty Insp. Joel Matthews says there are reasons the death is considered suspicious.

"He's laying out in front of a local business, the trauma to his body," he said.

Police say there's nothing that points to the victim, only described as being in his 40s, having any connection to the auto shop.

Witness are being interviewed but no persons of interest or suspects have been identified.

Police say they have tentatively identified the man and are working on notifying the next of kin. His identity won't be released until after an autopsy scheduled for sometime next week.

Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police or Crime Stoppers.
