Former Calgary MMA fighter charged with assaulting 3 women over 10-year span
Calgary police have laid multiple charges against a man accused of violent domestic assaults against three women over a 10-year span.
The investigation started in May when a woman told police she had been violently assaulted by a man with whom she had had a relationship, the Calgary Police Service (CPS) said in a release Friday.
She also gave investigators the names of two other women believed to have been abused, physically and sexually, by the same man.
"The level of violence exhibited by the alleged offender is significant," said Staff Sgt. Vince Hancott with the CPS domestic conflict unit.
"Each victim is being supported through this difficult time."
Daniel Walders, 39, has been charged with:
11 counts of assault.
Three counts of assault with a weapon.
Four counts of sexual assault.
Two counts of uttering threats.
Walders is a former professional middleweight mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter who last fought in 2013 and had a record of no wins to six losses, according to the MMA website Sherdog.
He will next appear in court on July 27.
