Calgary man charged after recording equipment found in girl's home

A 41-year-old Calgary man has been charged with voyeurism and luring a child after a secret video recording device was discovered in a teenage girl’s home.

Police were called to an apartment building on 98th Avenue S.W. on April 5 for reports of a problem with a neighbour.

A 14-year-old girl told officers she had found a video recording camera hidden in her home last month and believed her neighbour — a friend of the family — had installed it on a previous visit.

The girl also said her neighbour had been sending her inappropriate text messages for several months.

Police got a search warrant and seized a substantial amount of “technological-related” equipment from another apartment in the building.

A forensic examination is underway, police said.

The accused was charged with voyeurism and luring a child by telecommunication.

He will appear in court May 7.
