The Calgary Mothers' Milk Bank has changed its name to NorthernStar to reflect the growing support it's getting from across Canada.

Over the past year, the milk bank has grown to include donor mothers, recipients and health care providers from coast to coast and can no longer be seen solely as a Calgary-based organization, says executive director Jannette Festival.

"[The name change] allows moms to recognize they don't have to be in Calgary to donate their milk," Festival said. "They can come from all across Canada."

NorthernStar is on track to dispense more than 130,000 ounces of donor milk to hospitals in Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia this year.

The milk bank is planning to add six new collection sites in Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Edmonton, Yorkton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg for out-of-town donations.
