Calgary news, weather and traffic for Oct. 9

Good morning Calgary! It's mostly cloudy and 12 C at 8:30 a.m. Here's what's happening in the city today.

Weather

We're expecting a high of 21 degrees today with a mix of sun and cloud in the forecast. The wind will be out of the southwest at 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h.

If you're in the southwest corner of the province, be advised that there are wind warnings in effect in the Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek and Waterton National Park areas.

As for smoke, it's not expected to be an issue today in Calgary with the Air Quality Health Index forecast at a 3.

Later today, Finance Minister Joe Ceci will offer a peek at the provincial government's financial performance in the first quarter of the year. Economists will be watching the announcement closely, as many are looking for signs of a provincial and national recession. Ceci's press conference begins at 1:30 p.m. today.

A man has died after being struck by a vehicle last night in the southeast. Police say the collision happened just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of 17th Avenue and 52nd Street S.W. EMS reports the victim was a man in his 40s. Police are still investigating the incident.
