Weather

We're not expecting any big changes in the weather today — it will remain chilly and overcast, with a high of -7 C. (The average high for this time of year is 1 C.) A few snowflakes could fall this afternoon, but no need to break out the snowbrush.

Hopefully see a bit of improvement this weekend, with the forecast calling for sunshine and a -4 C on Saturday and a high of -1 C on Sunday.

The Junos are coming back to Calgary. Our city has been named the host city for the 2016 edition of the awards show which honours the best in Canadian music.

A Fort McMurray family is mourning the death of a second child poisoned by a pesticide used to get rid of bed bugs. Two-year-old Zia Hassan died in an Edmonton hospital on Thursday. His eight-month-old sister, Zara, died on Monday. A third sibling remains in hospital.

The three-team qualifying tournament for the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier is underway at the Saddledome. In the opening game, team Yukon defeated Prince Edward Island by a score of 8-1. The winning province will win the opportunity to compete in the main event, which gets underway on Saturday. Nova Scotia is also competing in the mini-tournament.
