Happy parade day Calgary! It's sunny and 16 C at 7 a.m. Here's what's happening in Calgary today.

Weather

If you're heading down to the Stampede parade today, make sure to bring sunscreen. It'll be a warm and sunny day today with a high of 30 C and a UV index of 8, which is considered very high.

Temperatures won't be quite as warm on the weekend, with a high of 22 C expected on Saturday and 21 C expected on Sunday.

There will be several road closures in the downtown core today because of the Stampede parade. The following routes will be affected from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m.

- Westbound Sixth Avenue from Third Street S.E. to 10th Street S.W.

- 10th Street S.W. from Sixth Avenue S.W. to Ninth Avenue S.W.

- Eastbound Ninth Avenue from 10th Street S.W. to Third Street S.E.

- The Fifth Avenue S.W. lane reversal will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. only.

The 103rd Calgary Stampede kicks off today with the annual parade in the downtown core. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to line the parade route under sunny skies this morning. If you can't make it down, you can watch the festivities live on CBC television or at cbc.ca/calgary beginning at 9 a.m.

Yet another false bomb threat has been made against a WestJet flight. WestJet Flight 1709 from Las Vegas to Victoria was targeted Thursday afternoon. The flight landed safely in Victoria without incident. Airport officials in Victoria did not treat the bomb scare as a credible threat, and the RCMP are now pursuing criminal mischief charges. It was the fifth WestJet flight to receive a false threat in the past week.
