Good morning Calgary! It's sunny and 14 C at 8:05 a.m. Here's what's happening in the city today.

Weather

If you're a fan of hot, sunny weather, the long weekend forecast looks like it's going to be just about perfect. We're expecting sunshine and a high of 31 C in Calgary. The UV index will be at 7 today which is considered high — don't forget the sunscreen!

It'll be the same story for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with highs in the high 20s for the rest of your long weekend.

With the federal election campaign expected to officially begin this weekend, the federal Conservatives are ramping things up in Calgary today. Calgary Centre-North MP Michelle Rempel is scheduled to make an announcement for improved community infrastructure projects in the city's northeast, and Calgary-Centre MP Joan Crockatt will be announcing federal money to help young Canadians find jobs.

With hot weather in the forecast, police and fire officials are asking Calgarians to be safe and smart on the city's waterways this weekend. Bylaw officers will be making sure people are wearing life jackets and not consuming alcohol on the river. They're also looking out for people who drive 4X4 trucks through the rivers, an offence which carries a penalty of an automatic court appearance and a fine of more than one thousand dollars.
