Weather

We're looking at another great spring day here in the city today, with sunshine and a high of 23 C expected. Wind will be out of the southeast at 20 km/h gusting to 40 km/h. Don't forget the sunscreen, either — the UV index will be at a 6 today which is considered high.

There are significant delays on southbound Deerfoot Trail. Emergency crews are on scene at Deerfoot Trail just before the Calf Robe Bridge. The left-hand lane is the only lane open at the moment, and traffic is backing up past Memorial Drive.

Rachel Notley has been sworn in as the 17th premier of Alberta. The ceremony took place in Edmonton yesterday, before a crowd of thousands of people at the Legislature. Her smaller, 11-member cabinet includes three ministers from Calgary, including former city alderman Joe Ceci, who is now the province's finance minister. Calgary-Buffalo MLA Kathleen Ganley is the new Minister of Justice, the new Solicitor General, and the new Minister of Aboriginal Affairs. Calgary-McCall MLA Irfan Sabir has been named the Minister of Human Services. You can find a full list of Notley's cabinet choices here.

One man is in hospital with gunshot wounds after an incident late last night in the northeast. Police say the victim knocked on the door of a home on the 100 block of Rundlefield Crescent around 11 p.m. saying he'd been assaulted with a weapon. When police arrived they found he had been shot. Witnesses have told police they saw a number of vehicles leaving the area at the time.
