A Calgary woman found guilty of murdering her six-year-old stepdaughter is appealing her conviction. Meika Jordan died in 2011 after being beaten by her father Spencer Jordan and stepmother Marie Magoon. They were convicted of second-degree murder in June and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 17 years. Both were the target of a lengthy undercover police investigation. In the notice of appeal, Magoon's lawyer argues that her confession to undercover officers should not have been allowed to be admitted as evidence. Jordan has also appealed his conviction.
