The legal team representing a Calgary businessman who's suing Mayor Naheed Nenshi for defamation wants another chance to question the mayor before the case goes to trial. Cal Wenzel is suing the mayor for $6 million over remarks Nenshi made about the home builder during the last municipal election campaign. In court yesterday, Nenshi's lawyer Munaf Mohamed said Wenzel is throwing his weight around because he has more money than Nenshi, and that the legal moves could triple the cost of the case.

The latest numbers on home sales in Calgary show it's a buyers market, especially when it comes to condos. Some realtors say instead of bidding wars this year, some properties are sitting a few weeks longer because there's more selection, and less demand out there.

In its latest forecast, ATB Financial predicts Alberta's economy will slip into recession this fall, if it hasn't already. That means it's a good time to hunker down and re-evaluate personal finances, according to investment managers gathered at a conference in downtown Calgary Thursday.
