Good morning Calgary! It's Thursday, March 5 — here's what's happening in Calgary today.

Weather

Here comes the chinook! Today should mark the beginning of a long stretch of warm, sunny weather here in Calgary. We'll hit a high of 9 C today, 9 C tomorrow, and then — if we dare peek ahead to the long term forecast — up to double digit highs (12 C) by the end of the weekend. The wind will come out of the west at 20 km/h with gusts up to 40 km/h.

Crews are working on a water main break at 14th Street at 14th Avenue N.W.

Crews are currently at the scene of a fire in Huntington Hills, at 10th Street and 72nd Avenue N.W. One man is currently being treated for smoke inhalation.

One woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a late night fire in Dover. Fire crews were called to a fourplex on Doverdale Mews S.E. around midnight. The fire department says the damage to one suite was extensive but it was contained to that suite.

Alberta Premier Jim Prentice is facing criticism over a comment made on CBC Radio's Alberta@Noon yesterday afternoon. Prentice suggested that Albertans "need to look in the mirror" when it comes to the province's economic situation.

Team Alberta skip Kevin Koe picked up an important win at the Tim Hortons Brier last night, defeating his younger brother Jamie (representing the Northwest Territories) in the evening draw. With the win, Alberta currently sits at 4-4. The other Calgary-based rink, Team Canada, is playing well after promoting Pat Simmons to the skip position — they currently have a 6-3 record.
