A Calgary police officer has been charged following what was described as an off-duty domestic incident outside of the city.
RCMP in an unidentified municipality neighbouring Calgary arrested the officer on Saturday and charged him with assault, assault by choking and forcible confinement.
"Given the domestic nature of this incident, the name of the officer will not be released to protect the privacy of those impacted," the Calgary Police Service said in a release.
CPS added it was not naming the municipality where the officer was arrested.
The accused officer has been with the service for nine years, and police said he will remain on administrative duties at this time.
"Information about this incident and charges are being released in the interests of public transparency. The charged officer is afforded the right to a fair trial, the same as any member of the public," police said in the release.
"They will be offered the appropriate supports from the service during the court process."
