Calgary police recover $300K worth of stolen goods

Cowbells, Elvis and Star Trek memorabilia, hockey cards and the diary of a teenager are among the goods Calgary police recovered on Feb. 5 from a home in the 200 block of McKerrell Way S.E.

More than $300,000 worth of property was recovered, and now police are using Facebook and Flickr to reunite the stolen items with their rightful owners.

"We've probably had about 50 or 60 calls already," said Const. Cathy Caddick, who is one of the investigators on the case.

Caddick believes most of the stolen goods came from break and enters into condo parkades.

"Typically it's for a drug habit or just their way of making a living," she said.

Caddick says any items not claimed could end up being returned to the offender, because police could not prove they were stolen.

Anyone who recognizes the property as having been stolen from them should contact Calgary police at 403-428-6800.
