Calgary police post pictures of stolen loot worth $200K after burglary bust
The Calgary police are trying to return $200,000 worth of stolen property after it was recovered in a breaking-and-entering investigation downtown.
According to police, they arrested a man and woman in June connected to 16 break-ins that occurred in May, and 24 dating back to 2019.
Police say the burglars accessed exterior building lockboxes to get master keys, which they used to gain entry into storage lockers, apartment building lobbies, businesses and office towers.
After issuing a search warrant, officers discovered "copious" amounts of stolen property in the suspects' storage units, vehicles and residence, according to a news release.
As well, police retrieved more than 170 bank cards, passports and drivers' licences.
The suspects now face more than 74 charges related to breaking-and-entering, theft and breaches of conditions.
Police say multiple items have already been returned to owners, including bikes, construction tools, laptops, a Katana sword and a suitcase full of sentimental items and identity documents.
The rest of the property has since been posted to Facebook with photos and exhibit numbers.
Anyone who thinks an item is theirs is asked to email propertyreturn@calgarypolice.ca with as many details and corroborating photos as possible, as well as the exhibit number in the Facebook album photo.
"If you have an item stolen from you, it is important you report it to police for two reasons. First, we hope that one day we can recover and return the item to you. Secondly, we can't lay charges in relation to stolen property unless we have a corresponding report to identify a victim," said Sgt. Jodi Gach in a press release.
