Calgary senior transit passes will jump to $95 in 2013

Calgary city council members voted Tuesday to raise the cost of seniors transit passes from $55 to $95 dollars a year.

Council also voted to widen the income range for annual low-income transit passes.

Ward 11 Ald. Brian Pincott estimates about 10,000 more Calgarians will now be eligible for the low-income pass.

The combined moves will add $1.9 million to next year's city budget, putting the property tax hike at 5.5 per cent.

The transit changes come into effect in 2013.
