Calgary Stampede saddle bronc: Jake and Jesse Wright are competitors to watch

They may be identical twins, but Jake and Jesse Wright don't stick together in the rodeo ring.

The 26-year-old cowboys, along with three other members of their family, will compete against each other in the saddle bronc event at the Calgary Stampede.

The goal is to not get thrown off a bucking horse while holding on with one hand.

The free hand can't touch the horse or equipment, and the rider has to stay on for at least eight seconds to win.

Expect to watch a wild ride.

It's a family affair for the Wrights

These identical twin brothers from Milford, Utah, have strong rodeo pedigree. Their dad started them in rodeo as kids in the family arena, says Jesse.

"Dad always pushed bronc riding and he liked it best. He said 'real cowboys ride bucking horses' so he pushed it on us pretty hard. And heck, we got pretty good at it."

Jesse was the 2012 World Champion and Jake took second in 2013.

The saddle bronc field is tight with Wrights — they have two other brothers and a nephew competing at the Stampede.

They've both been injured, but nothing "life threatening," said Jake. "Just broke both ankles, broke lots of ribs, busted my eye open, cracked my T3 at NFR (National Finals Rodeo) last year. It comes with the job."

Why they keep coming back to the Stampede

This is Jesse's fifth time at the Stampede and Jake's third.

"I'll keep coming until they tell me I'm too old," says Jesse.

"It pays like a slot machine and there's awesome bucking horses. Heck, I wouldn't miss it for the world."

They won't wager which of the Wrights will do best, only hedging "whoever does best that day will win."
