Calgary teen suffers serious injuries after being struck twice by Hummer

A teenager is in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle this morning.

Emergency Medical Services found him after being called to Beddington Boulevard and Beddington Drive northeast.

Calgary Police say it appears the teen was hit twice by the same vehicle — a Hummer.

"He wasn't struck very hard. He was able to get up and looked like he was relatively OK and unfortunately at that point the Hummer was rear ended very hard by another vehicle that was going in the same direction," said Staff Sgt. Paul Stacey.

Stacey said the teen was then run over by the Hummer.

He was taken to Foothills Hospital with significant soft-tissue and internal injuries.

Police say charges are pending against the driver of the second vehicle, a Hyundai Tucson, while the circumstances surrounding the driver of the Hummer are being investigated.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in this collision.

Beddington Boulevard has since reopened to traffic.
