Call2Recycle Canada launches battery recycling program

New Brunswickers have a new outlet to unplug from their old household batteries.

The province has partnered with the non-profit group Call2Recycle Canada Inc. to set up drop off points at retailers, businesses and municipalities.

Single use and rechargeable batteries weighing under five kilograms will be collected at 150 locations for recycling.

The cost of the program will be covered by the battery industries including manufacturers and brand owners who are all members of Call2Recycle Canada.

The company says since 1997, they have diverted eight million kilograms of batteries and cell phones from the solid waste stream and established 7,000 collection sites throughout Canada.
