Cam Newton crashed his Ferrari into a dump truck
Every time Cam Newton gets behind the wheel, he must imagine Don Cheadle’s opening monologue from the 2004 film “Crash” about crashing into people just to feel something, playing in his head. The Carolina Panthers quarterback has a penchant for big-time collisions on the gridiron and away from it as well.
Per TMZ, Newton was driving his $300,000 Ferrari F12 around Atlanta on Thursday afternoon when he somehow collided with a local dump truck. Fortunately, Newton bolstered his reputation as the Man of Steel by walking away unscathed while the dump truck shrugged it off with minimal damage.
Turns out the Man of Steel’s kryptonite is defensive driving. This is the second time Newton has gotten into a consequential collision on the road, although he emerged much better from this incident than he did from his Dec. 2014 accident on a Charlotte bridge when his truck was overturned.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback suffered fractures in his back following that crash and missed multiple weeks of action to heal.
On the field, Newton has been under pressure to learn how to slide to minimize the amount of big hits he’s received, but behind the wheel a driving course should do him more good.
