Campaign collects 1,400 boxes of feminine hygiene products

Over 1,400 boxes of feminine hygiene products were collected for P.E.I. food banks.

A 28 day campaign called "Taking Care of Women's Business. Period." was launched by Tracey Comeau who said she had no expectations on how many boxes would be collected.

Comeau said she is feeling rather emotional about the tremendous support from so many groups, associations and individuals, even beyond P.E.I.

The campaign was launched after Comeau read on online story about a homeless woman who felt she'd lost the last bit of her dignity when she couldn't afford feminine hygiene products.

Comeau found out there was a need for the products at P.E.I. food banks.

The campaign ran from Feb. 28 to March 28 and products were dropped off at 18 collection sites across the Island.

Comeau said the main goals of the campaign were to address the current need and create awareness for future donors to food banks.

She added both goals were achieved.

The 1,439 boxes of products are being distributed to the six food banks in P.E.I.
