Campbellford Memorial Hospital welcomes new physician

Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) says a lengthy recruitment effort has paid off for the hospital and the patients it serves.

CMH recently hired a new hospitalist, an in-patient physician who works exclusively at the hospital, after more than a year-long search.

Dr. Karishma Bhimji joined the CMH hospitalist rotation in mid-March. During her monthly rotation at the hospital, Bhimji will be providing direct hospitalist care to the patients admitted to the in-patient unit and will also consult when required with other CMH physicians about the admission of patients to the unit.

“On behalf of the entire CMH team, I am excited to welcome Dr. Bhimji home to Canada and to CMH,” said Varouj Eskedjian, CMH president and CEO.

“Our physician group, nursing staff and the entire team look forward to working with her and I am confident her experience and expertise will support the exceptional patient care that our community has come to expect from our hospital.”

Bhimji has spent the last several years in Bryan, Texas working as a hospitalist at a 300-bed site. She received her nursing diploma at Humber College and her Bachelor’s degree in nursing at Texas Women’s University.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Dr. Bhimji to CMH,” said Laurie Smith, CMH physician liaison.

“These are the rewarding moments in physician recruitment, from initial contact to assistance with the licensing process, to welcoming her on site. Dr. Bhimji will be an asset to our staff and the community and I am thrilled that our hard work has now come together.”

While working as a staff and emergency room nurse in Texas, Bhimji completed the requirements towards her physician licensure over the following 10 years, in Dominica and the United States.
