Canada Day: What's open and what's closed in Montreal
Here's what's open and closed for Canada Day:
- Most retail shops are closed today in accordance with the law, including shopping malls like Rockland Centre and Fairview Pointe-Claire.
- Exceptions to this rule include restaurants, service stations, bookstores, antique shops, and florists.
- Grocery stores, pharmacies and some SAQ branch stores also have the right to open today between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.
- Public markets including the Jean-Talon Market and the Atwater Market are open.
- Parking fees on city streets are not waived today and remain in effect.
- Most Montreal, city borough and Accès Montréal offices are closed.
- The STM will be operating on a holiday schedule and some bus routes will be changed because of the Canada Day parade.
- Opening hours for arenas, swimming pools, sports centres, libraries and cultural venues vary according to borough.
- Pointe-à-Callière Museum, the Biodome, Insectarium, Botanical Garden, Planetarium Rio Tinto Alcan, Montreal Museum of Fine Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art are open.
- Pickup services for household garbage, green waste, kitchen waste, recyclables and bulky items will take place following regular schedules in all the boroughs, except for the following:
- Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension: pickup of green waste is postponed to Monday, July 6, and pickup of kitchen waste is maintained.
- Outremont: recycling pickup is postponed to Thursday, July 2.
