Canada Day in Winnipeg: What's open and what's happening

It's Canada Day, and here's what you need to know about what's open and what there is to do in Winnipeg.

City of Winnipeg offices are closed on Wednesday, along with leisure centres, libraries and indoor swimming pools.

But there is good news if you need to cool down: A number of public outdoor swimming pools, wading pools and spray pads are open. Check the city's website for the hours at the pool or spray pad nearest you.

Also, the city's golf courses — Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park — are open on Canada Day.

By the way, CBC meteorologist John Sauder is calling for a mix of sun and clouds and a daytime high of 27 C.

Even though city offices are closed, make sure your garbage, recycling and yard waste are on the curb if Wednesday is your usual collection day.

If you want to take the bus to festivities around the city, Winnipeg Transit is operating on a Sunday schedule.

It also has a free shuttle if you want to check out events at The Forks, Osborne Village and downtown. The shuttle will operate from noon until midnight, according to the city.

As well, Winnipeg Transit is adding extra Route 11 buses between The Forks and Assiniboine Park from noon until 11 p.m. Regular fares apply to the Route 11 service.

A traffic reminder: Osborne Street from River Avenue to Confusion Corner remains closed until 1 a.m. on Thursday for Canada Day celebrations at Osborne Village. As well, Stradbrook, Wardlaw and Gertrude avenues are closed between Nassau Street and Scott Street.
