Canada election debate 2021: Which federal leader will come out on top?

Five of Canada's federal party leaders are coming back together with an English debate on Thursday evening.

The debate topics focused on:

  • Affordability

  • Climate

  • COVID-19 recovery

  • Leadership and accountability

  • Reconciliation

The English debate included questions from voters, questions from a moderator or journalist to each leader, leader-to-leader-to-leader debate and an open debate with all five participants.

While Yahoo readers were most supportive of Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole's performance in the French debate on Wednesday, O'Toole also defended his ability to be the next prime minister, stressing that he is "very experienced."

Justin Trudeau maintained his decision to hold an election now, maintaining that Canadians deserve to choose how the country should move forward out of the pandemic, while NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh called it "selfish."

Following the French debate, Green Party Leader Annamie Paul spoke about a young boy who asked a question about the climate and reducing fossil fuels.

"We shouldn't let our future be left in the hands of the same old parties that put us in this position," she said.
