The weather this Halloween will be a thrill for some lucky trick-or-treaters and dampen the night with a dour chill for others, potentially keeping some kids inside to miss out on this year’s sugary bonanza.

A polarized pattern will cast a spell on the western half of the country, where brisk temperatures and occasional bouts of rain could interfere with outdoor plans on Monday evening.

Many kids across the east will see calmer, milder conditions -- though parts of southern Ontario may have to watch out for scattered rain.

Western Canada

Folks across the West Coast will head into the evening hours on Halloween contending with the lingering remnants of the atmospheric river that promises to drench the region with 50-150 mm of rain.

While the rain should wind down by the end of the day Monday, we could still see an isolated shower lurking around Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland around the time kiddos will head out trick-or-treating, but hardly enough to spoil long-awaited plans.

Conditions should co-operate with the outdoor festivities across the southern Prairies, but folks across central Alberta may have to dodge some mixed precipitation as a weak disturbance lifts over the Rockies.

Eastern Canada

Back east, we’ll see widespread calm conditions throughout much of Ontario, and stretching into Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

The relatively comfortable and serene conditions should make for a pleasant night for the little ghosts and goblins to nab some free chocolate from the neighbours.

We’ll have to watch southern Ontario for the chance for scattered showers, however, which could put a damper on the evening for some folks across the region.
