Mark McMorris soars into Winter X Games lore with record-tying medal
Canada's Mark McMorris soared into snowboarding lore on Saturday, earning his 18th individual Winter X Games medal to equal Shaun White's mark in Aspen, Colo.
McMorris matched the record with a silver in snowboard big air; fellow Canadian Max Parrot took gold in the event.

Entering the competition, McMorris, 26, had a chance to surpass White's haul, but the two-time Olympic medallist finished seventh in the slopestyle event held earlier in the day.

The Regina native, however, wasn't the only Canuck to enjoy a milestone.
In slopestyle, Darcy Sharpe topped Norway's Mons Røisland and Olympic gold medallist Red Gerard of the U.S. to win his first-ever X Games gold. The native of Comox, B.C., won silver in the same event in 2018.

Canada's first medal of the day came courtesy of Stoneham, Que., native Laurie Blouin. The Olympic silver medallist came second in the women's snowboard slopestyle competition.
Last year, Blouin won gold in big air.

Jamie Anderson of the U.S. earned gold, while 15-year-old Kokomo Murase of Japan took bronze.
Anderson, along with American snowmobiler Joe Parsons, were also hoping to join McMorris on the all-time wins list, but both remain one back with 17 medals apiece.
Canada also took to the podium in the men's ski slopestyle competition thanks to Evan McEachran's silver. The Oakville, Ont., native finished behind American Colby Stevenson to claim his first-ever X Games medal. Switzerland's Fabian Bosch came third.
McEachran nearly made the the podium last year after finishing fourth in the ski big air competition.

Two more medals came courtesy of Erin, Ont., native Rachael Karker and Cassie Sharpe of Comox, B.C.

The pair won silver and bronze respectively, finishing behind Estonia's Kelly Sildaru in the women's ski superpipe.
