How Canadian NHL teams fared yesterday
Two Canadian teams closed out Super Bowl weekend with very different results on Sunday afternoon. Montreal appears to be getting back on track, while Edmonton had a weekend to forget.
Scrivens steps up for Habs
The Canadiens needed a big performance from goalie Ben Scrivens to seal a 2-1 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Scrivens made 34 saves and remained perfect in the shootout to help Montreal to their first consecutive wins since Nov. 27.
Winger Sven Andrighetto scored the game-winner in the fifth round of the shootout and captain Max Pacioretty had the game-tying goal in the second. Carolina's lone goal came from Jeff Skinner in the opening frame.
Oilers blasted by Islanders
The Edmonton Oilers were shelled over the weekend after the New York Islanders victimized them in an 8-1 rout on Sunday afternoon.
Connor McDavid scored the only goal for Edmonton and Anders Nilsson was chased from the net for allowing three goals on the opening 10 shots. New York's Kyle Okposo had a hat trick to lead his team.
The Oilers were outscored 13-2 through the weekend.
