Cancer fundraiser surpasses goal

Kingston resident and Belleville’s Eighty Twenty Studio employee Cody Bennett launched a fundraiser to raise $500 to donate to F*ck Cancer through to support his mother who has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer Feb. 4.

After a stroke of luck and extreme generosity from friends and family, Cody’s F*ck Cancer Fundraiser surpassed the original goal by over $2,500 in under 12 hours.

“My friends and family, and their friends and families all rallied around this,” said Bennett. “I never expected to reach $3,000 in the campaign let alone in a day.”

F*ck Cancer is a nonprofit organization dedicated to prevention early detection and providing emotional support and guidance to Americans and Canadians affected by cancer.

“I’ve always liked the fact that they have been focused on research but also support for survivors and their families,” said Bennett.

The charity organization uses digital and on-the-ground programs and events to change the way people think and talk about cancer. By using wit, edge and humour, F*ck Cancer creates a safe space for people to educate, share and support each other.

Cody’s F*ck Cancer Campaign will run through to February 28th. On the final day of the campaign, Bennett will be doing a live stream on where he and his sister will be shaving their heads.

“I’m very grateful that this fundraiser has been able to create such unity and support,” said Bennett. “I’m excited to see how successful this has been and look forward to seeing where we can take it.”

The live stream will be available at 3 p.m. on February 28th on the following channels: codestined, itsivysaur, thestonetrooper, Kenzanite, Monachband, Aliencourier.
