His opponent, Saunders, is billed from Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom. He’s listed as 5-foot-11 with a 71-inch reach. Per BoxRec, the 31-year-old is the third highest-rated boxer in the super-middleweight division. Through 30 total fights, Saunders owns a perfect 30-0-0 record with 14 knockouts. Alvarez represents Saunders' toughest test since the British boxer took on Canadian David Lemieux at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec in December 2017. Saunders won the fight by way of decision.

Saunders offers a unique challenge for Alvarez as he’s a southpaw. When the fight takes place, it’ll be nearly six years (May 9, 2015) to the date since the last time Alvarez squared off against a true southpaw boxer. Alvarez did defeat James Kirlkland in that fight via knockout and has defeated other impressive lefties like Erislandy Lara and Austin Trout in his career, with both of those wins coming by decision.

Entering the bout, Alvarez (-700) is a major favourite to win, according to Odds Shark. Saunders (+450) seems to have his work cut out for him, but he did state to The Telegraph that he’d rather win than ever see his kids again.
