Car crashes into Tim Hortons in Hampton, injures customer

A car smashed into the Hampton Tim Hortons on Monday shortly before noon, causing "significant" structural damage and sending a customer to the hospital with undetermined injuries, police say.

The cause of the collision at the front of the building at 470 Main St. is not yet clear, said RCMP Cpl. Mark Simon.

It appears a middle-aged woman who was driving the Nissan Altima was "in the process of pulling into a parking spot, when the vehicle went into the window and lower part of the frame of the building," he said.

But Simon could not say whether driver error, vehicle malfunction or a health-related incident may have triggered the crash.

"At this point, I have to let the investigator do his job and look into it a little bit more, but should the investigation warrant it, there will be charges laid."

The injured customer, who was inside the building during impact, was transported to the hospital by ambulance for "further treatment," said Simon.

"The extent of the injuries we don't know yet."

It was not a high-speed crash, but the front of the structure was pushed in, said Simon. The glass windows, however, remained intact.

Tim Hortons officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

The popular coffee shop remained open for business, despite the damage.

"They just kind of sectioned off that area."

The driver of the four-door car was the lone occupant, he said.
