Car fire forces woman out of her home in Surrey

A Surrey woman was forced out of her home after her vehicle caught fire in her driveway early Saturday morning.

Surrey fire crews responded to the woman's house with four units around 5:30 a.m., in the 12000 block of 112B Avenue.

When they arrived, they found a small car fully engulfed.

Battalion Chief Andy George said if crews hadn't knocked down the fire so quickly, it could have been much worse.

"If we hadn't got it quickly, it could have quite easily got into the house," said George.

"It was a pretty simple car fire ... we were able to knock it down quickly."

Although some smoke got inside the home, firefighters were able to get the woman out safely.

There was no damage to the residence, but a small trailer next to the car suffered minor damage from the blaze.

George said the cause of the fire is still unknown, and that the RCMP are now handling the investigation.
