Car gets wedged under semi making U-turn on Florida highway, cops say. Driver killed
A man died when his car crashed into the side of a tractor-trailer making a U-turn on a Florida highway, lodging his car underneath, state troopers said.
The man, 28, was driving a sedan down East Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in St. Cloud in the early morning of Nov. 21 before the crash, according to a crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Traveling the other direction was a Publix delivery tractor-trailer that moved into the left-hand turn lane before starting to make a U-turn, WOFL reported.
The semi was about halfway through its U-turn, completely blocking both lanes of traffic, when the other driver crashed into the side of the trailer, highway patrol said.
The sedan slid under the trailer, killing the man driving, according to the crash report.
Video from WOFL showed the top of the sedan flattened as it stuck out from under the trailer.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 37-year-old woman from Orlando, was not hurt in the crash and stayed at the crash site, highway patrol said.
Possible charges and the identity of the drivers will not be released until an investigation into the crash is complete, according to highway patrol.
St. Cloud is about 30 miles south of Orlando.
