Cardinals' QB loses bet, practices dressed as Supergirl

Pregame warmups are a time when players can unveil their peculiar, unique, or fascinating fashion choices, usually in the form of footwear. (Von Miller’s skinned Ewoks remain our favorite.) But the Arizona Cardinals use it as an opportunity to collect on bets.

Drew Stanton lost the Cardinals’ weekly quarterback skills competition this week, and, well, ended up in a Supergirl costume:

This isn’t the first time Stanton has worn a non-regulation uniform to the field; a couple weeks back, he showed his own version of patriotism with an American flag singlet:

Dressing up in costume is a longstanding tradition across the major sports; one of the better ones we’ve seen lately was the Washington Nationals’ tribute to “Game of Thrones” earlier this season. (Alas, winter came for the Nationals earlier this week.)

However, it’s worth noting that baseball has forbidden the kind of hazing that would put a guy in a Supergirl costume. The policy forbids “dressing up as women or wearing costumes that may be offensive to individuals based on their race, sex, nationality, age, sexual orientation, gender identify or other characteristic.” The NFL doesn’t have a similar policy on the books.

Regardless of policy, one thing is clear: Stanton needs to get better at these QB competitions.
