VANCOUVER — Cariboo North election results as of Oct. 24, 2020 at 9:40 p.m.:

Coralee Oakes of the BC Liberal Party has been re-elected as MLA in Cariboo North, keeping the seat for the party. Oakes won 1,772 out of 3,499 counted votes (50.64 per cent) with 31 of 56 polls reporting.

Scott Elliott of the NDP won 1,049 votes (29.98 per cent). Kyle Townsend of the Conservative party won 442 votes (12.63 per cent). Douglas Gook of the Green party won 236 votes (6.74 per cent).

As of 9:40 p.m., The Canadian Press is projecting the BC NDP has won a majority government. The party has won or is leading in 53 of 87 seats. The BC Liberal Party has won or is leading in 31, and the BC Green Party has won or is leading in three seats.

As of Oct. 23, 2,051 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters in the riding. There are a total of 19,949 registered voters in Cariboo North.

Provincewide, 724,279 mail-in ballots have been sent out, and there are 3,485,858 registered voters.

Mail-in ballots will be counted by hand, starting in 13 days.
