CBBC has aired another groundbreaking LGBTQ+ scene days after The Next Step showed its first same-sex kiss.

In the latest episode of teen drama Mystic, Caleb Burford (played by Joshua Tan) came out as gay to his friend Issie Brown.

When Issie and Caleb were trapped together on a beach, the pair began opening up to each other, with Issie revealing how she has always felt like an outsider.

Caleb later told her: "I've been thinking about what you said earlier, about trusting us and you know, feeling like an outsider and stuff. I do feel like that sometimes."

Issie then interjected: "You don't need to say that just to make me feel better." To which Caleb replied: "I'm not."

Issie added: "Oh come on, this is your home, your friends. I'm just the weird girl that everyone thinks is a liar."

Caleb then told her: "I'm weird too... I'm gay I think. No, I know I am." Issie replied: "Thank you for telling me. It must have been really hard."

When Caleb then asked Issie to keep his secret, saying that he didn't want his friends to feel weird, she told him: "I know this is a big deal... like huge. But honestly Caleb, no-one will even care.

"Being gay is... it's like one little piece of who you are. A good piece."

CBBC received praise from fans on Twitter after it aired its first same-sex kiss on The Next Step last month.

One viewer wrote: "When kids [shows] have representation like this it honestly makes me so happy because I know there are kids out there who will feel less alone than I did. Thank you @cbbc @thenextstep."
