CBC Calgary wins 6 RTDNA awards

CBC Calgary brought home six regional awards from the RTDNA, the organization which represents broadcast journalists in Canada, on Saturday in Saskatoon.

The digital team was recognized for spot news for our coverage of the disappearance of Nathan O'Brien, Kathy Liknes and Alvin Liknes in June 2014, our online coverage of the Brentwood stabbings, in which five young Calgarians lost their lives, and our anniversary coverage of the Alberta Flood.

Danielle Nerman managed to snag two radio awards for herself, one for a story on how age doesn't have to get in the way of being an athlete, and another for a story about beavers helping a Bragg Creek couple build a pond on their property.

"It's the people that make the story," Nerman said. "A story that really works is one that has passionate people and real characters."

Finally, CBC Radio's Alberta@Noon got the nod for its special cross-border town hall on the Keystone XL Pipeline in partnership with U.S. public radio program, America Abroad.

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) awards are the most prestigious broadcast awards for journalists working in the industry in Canada.
