CBC earns Canadian Screen Awards nominations for Here & Now, Beaumont-Hamel

The 2017 Canadian Screen Awards nominees have been announced, and CBC Newfoundland and Labrador is up for three nominations.

The awards are presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize excellence in Canadian film, English language television and digital media productions.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Toronto on March 12 that will be broadcast live on CBC Television.

Here & Now hosts Debbie Cooper, Jonathan Crowe and Ryan Snoddon and July's Beaumont-Hamel 100 special are also nominated.

Best local newscast

Here & Now is up for Best Local Newscast, with Lee Pitts, Jen White, Debbie Cooper, Jonathan Crowe, Ryan Snoddon and Rod Dobbin named as co-recipients of the nomination honour.

CTV News Toronto at 6, CBC Toronto News and Global News Hour at 6 are also nominated.

Best local news anchor

The hosts of Here & Now — Cooper, Crowe and Snoddon — are also up for the Best News Anchor Local award.

They will be competing with Daryl McIntyre of CTV News Edmonton, Andrew Chang of CBC Vancouver News at Six, and Tom Murphy and Amy Smith of CBC Nova Scotia for the honour.

Best news special

The Beaumont-Hamel 100 Remembrance, which CBC produced in July for the 100th anniversary of the infamous First World War battle, is up for the Best News Special award. Peter Gullage, Lee Pitts, Christina Mayo, Rod Dobbin, Anthony Germain and Heather Hiscox are all co-recipients.

It's up against CBC News: Canada Votes — Election Night, Global News: Fort McMurray Wildfire Evacuation, CTV's 2015 Federal Election, and Global Winnipeg's Decision Manitoba for the nomination.
