CBC Edmonton wins 3 regional RTDNA awards
CBC Edmonton has won three regional awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), the organization which represents broadcast journalists across Canada.
The winning stories, showcased on web and radio, were honoured Saturday night at a ceremony in Calgary.
"These awards are a recognition that good story telling is important and is still needed. How we deliver the news to the public is ever-changing but solid journalism must remain a constant," said managing editor Gary Cunliffe.
Winning stories variance in reporting
Janice Johnston took home the first RTDNA of the night for long feature with her initially exclusive story on Amber Athwal, the four-year-old girl whose trip to the dentist left her with brain damage.
Isabelle Gallant won the award for a sports feature with Winter Cycling 101, a series of stories following her experience winter cycling for the first time — with some tips included too.
Nola Keeler took home the creative use of sound award for her radio feature on waterbeds and how one Edmonton couple thinks the trend from the 70s and 80s is bound to return.
CBC Calgary also won three awards, bringing the total awards won by CBC in Alberta to six.
The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) awards are the most prestigious broadcast awards for journalists working in the industry in Canada.
