CBC Montreal Do Crew: Our Place is in need of some extra attention

Families with young parents, as well as those with adolescents, can sometimes need a bit of extra support.

West Island non-profit AMCAL provides just that. Their programs range from a residential program for youths and their families, to community programs that focus on skill-building for children and adults dealing with issues such as anger management and divorce.

Over the past 35 years, AMCAL has created a valuable resource for West Islanders in need.

Run in association with the CSSS Lac St. Louis, Our Place is drop-in program of education and social support. Housed in an apartment building in Pointe-Claire, Our Place aims to develop skills & strengths in the parents as well as socialization and age-appropriate skills in the children.

Our Place co-ordinator Diane Marsland has been with AMCAL for 33 years. Her dedication to the organization runs deep. When AMCAL went through some tough times in the 80s, she and other team members loaned the organization money to purchase their Kirkland residence.

"Having been with AMCAL for all these years, I strongly believe in keeping our West Island children and families in their community when they are in need."

AMCAL employees and volunteers do their utmost to maintain a clean environment at Our Place on a daily basis. However, lack of time & manpower makes it very difficult to do a proper deep cleaning. This is where the CBC Montreal Do Crew comes in!

We will be going to Our Place to give this 4 1/2 apartment the cleaning it deserves.

If you are interested in volunteering, here is what you need to know:

- WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 17th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

- WHERE: 502 Delmar Avenue, Pointe-Claire, Quebec H9R 4A6
