Southern Albertans will soon see and hear their own stories on CBC Calgary as a new pop-up bureau has launched in Lethbridge.

Over the next several months, the CBC Lethbridge bureau will explore the issues impacting southern Albertans and reflect what residents are thinking and talking about.

A new texting service will launch in the upcoming weeks which will allow residents to connect with the Lethbridge bureau and provide story tips and feedback.

The Lethbridge bureau will also send messages to the texting community informing them what coverage is on the horizon and how they can get involved.

Reporter Joel Dryden, who has been with CBC News since 2019, is launching the bureau. Prior to joining CBC News, Dryden was the editor of the Airdrie City View and Rocky View Weekly newspapers.

The first story with the bureau launched Thursday, a look into the opioid crisis in Lethbridge one year after the closure of ARCHES.
