Celebrating the cheese of southwestern Ontario

It's a good time to be a food lover in Windsor.

Not one, not two, but three seasonal markets are opening this weekend. The Walkerville Night Market opens Friday; the Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market does so Saturday; and the Riverside Farmers' Market is to open Sunday.

One person you will see at all three this weekend is Sarah Barrette. She's the woman behind a new business called The Cheese Bar.

Originally from Windsor-Essex, Sarah spent many years working abroad. When she returned to the region last fall, she noticed that there wasn't a shop here dedicated to just cheese.

Considering all the wine we produce here, Sarah decided to take things into her own hands and become a cheesemonger.

This weekend, she'll be selling 17 varieties of artisanal Canadian cheese, sourced exclusively from small producers in southwestern Ontario.

We chatted about everything from the proper way to serve cheese to why people need to give goat's milk another chance.
