Celebration of life announced this week for 9-year-old boy killed in hit-and-run crash
The family of Nolan Davidson, a 9-year-old who died after sustaining injuries from a hit-and-run crash, announced a celebration of life to honor their son in Lenexa this week.
Nolan and his father were traveling to a basketball game Dec. 1 when a white truck struck the rear passenger side of the family’s black sedan near Johnson Drive and Bell Road in Shawnee.
Nearly a week after the crash, Nolan’s family shared an update on CaringBridge, a website that helps people share medical updates with family and friends.
“Nolan was surrounded by the love of close family members and church members at the time of his passing,” his family said on the platform.
Since Nolan’s death, the community has rallied around the family, showing their support by creating memorials at the crash site and putting up blue ribbons near Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Lenexa, where Nolan attended the third grade.
A visitation is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Dec. 13 at Foundry Church, 8835 Lackman Road in Lenexa. The celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 14 at Westside Family Church, 8500 Woodsonia Drive in Lenexa, according to the Foundry Church Facebook page.
As of Sunday evening, a GoFundMe page established by Nolan’s family has raised more than $155,500.
Amid their loss, Nolan’s family thanked the community for their continued support in their time of mourning.
“The love we have felt extends further than we could have ever imagined,” the family wrote online.
The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office has charged Matthew Alexander Jacobo, 25, with two felonies in connection with the Dec. 1 crash; DUI with aggravated battery causing great harm and failure to stop an accident causing great harm.
He was also charged with possession of a firearm while under the influence, a misdemeanor.
A judge set Jacobo’s bond at $1 million. A court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 14.
