Celebrity Big Brother 2016 finalist Darren Day has opened up about his recent borderline personality disorder diagnosis.

The 52-year-old enjoyed a chat with the Loose Women panel today (August 11), where he was asked about his mental health during the coronavirus pandemic – specifically during lockdown.

Referencing how his plans to tour the UK and Europe with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat had been put on hold, Darren admitted the strict safety protocols were a blessing in disguise.

"Two years ago, I was diagnosed with bipolar and then during lockdown I've been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and I honestly believe that to some degree lockdown has saved me," he reflected.

"Because I think if I'd have been on tour, I wouldn't have been with the team I've been with."

The team in question were the mental health workers recommended by Robbie Williams, who Darren decided to publicly thank while on the show.

"Rob has been the most incredible mate to me over these last four years, particularly these last 12 months," the former Hollyoaks actor shared.

Prior to the pair's friendship, Darren claimed that he had been "misdiagnosed for a long, long time" by medical staff.

"I'm now on the right medication and I honestly feel the best that I can remember - certainly for 20-odd years. I feel the best I've ever felt."

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
