Celebrity Couples Who Were Engaged But Never Made It Down the Aisle in 2020

The Challenge's Deal and Wiseley shared their breakup news on their respective Instagram accounts on Friday, Nov. 27. The two first met in 2017 when they competed on another reality series, Dirty XXX, and got engaged during MTV’s The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 with their proposal airing on the show last year.

"Please don’t look at this breakup as a failure, because we’re not looking at it this way," Deal wrote to her fans on Instagram.

"Sometimes, people need to step back and work on themselves before fully committing to the other person," she added.

Wisely wrote in his note: "Our fans, I can’t tell you all how much your love and support for us over the years means to me. We love our community and fans and want you all to know that we will still be cheering each other on and supporting each other in everything."

News of their breakup comes just two weeks ahead of the premiere of Season 36, The Challenge: Double Agents, which airs on Dec. 9.

Both reality stars muted the comments on their respective posts.

Parr broke the news on Instagram that the pair has called off their engagement nearly one year after announcing their plans to marry.

"Y'all know I'm honest and transparent so I have to be the first to let you guys know that I am no longer engaged to Lamar," Parr wrote on her Instagram Story on Nov. 4. "This has been a difficult decision for me to make but it is the best for myself and my children."

"Lamar has some things that he alone has to work through," she continued, adding that she loves him "dearly" but is "no longer able to be by his side while he seeks the help he so desperately needs."

The former NBA player has struggled with drug addiction in the past, but it was not clear what "things" he is dealing with now.

"I wish him all the best," the personal trainer added, asking her followers for prayers for "everyone involved."

A rep for Odom did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

However, their relationship seems to be back on track. Three weeks after their split, Parr confirmed on Instagram that the two are back as a couple. Parr and Odom celebrated Thanksgiving together, as seen in a photo shared to Parr's Instagram account on the holiday.

Parr responded in the comments to one "confused" user who noticed that she was wearing her engagement ring in the smiley snapshot.

"Clearly we are back together," she said.

During an Oct. 19 appearance on The Breakfast Club, the Empire actress revealed that she and Hayden had split nearly two years after the former NFL star proposed.

"I haven’t said it yet but it didn’t work out," said Henson of her relationship with Hayden. "I tried, I said, 'Let’s do the therapy thing' but if you’re both not on the same page with that, then you feel like you’re taking it on yourself and that’s not a fair position for anybody to play in a relationship."

Henson revealed her engagement to Hayden, a former Super Bowl champ, in May 2018 on Instagram, sharing a photo of her new diamond with the caption: “I said yes y’all!!!”

The two were originally set to wed in April but chose to delay the wedding until June because of family plans and her crazy work schedule.

The actor and his fiancée called things off a little over a year after getting engaged, PEOPLE confirmed on Oct. 12.

The split was amicable between the private pair, a source told PEOPLE.

The Oscar-nominated actor and Santos, a content manager at L.A.-based beauty company Violet Gray, became engaged last October. The now-exes were first spotted together in August 2018 while out on a walk in New York City.

The "Confident" singer, 28, and the Young and the Restless actor, 29, called off their engagement in September, a source confirmed to PEOPLE exclusively at the time.

"It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers," said the source. "They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together."

Their split came two months after Ehrich proposed to Lovato in Malibu on July 22. They began dating in March.

The Queer Eye star revealed the breakup news on a September episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show during a conversation with guest host Stephen 'tWitch' Boss.

Brown and the director, who got engaged in May 2018, were originally set to marry over the summer. They first postponed the wedding due to COVID-19, then came to the decision to call it off completely.

"It was postponed because of the pandemic, but now it's actually postponed officially, because my fiancé and I, we were together for 10 years, and we broke up about three and a half months ago," said Brown. "We were distracted by so much — with the kids, and our careers — that during that time, I had to really say, how is our communication? How are other parts of our lives? Are we growing in the same place?"

"We're not 20 anymore, so it wasn't just, 'Oh, I'm not going to text you anymore' — it was like, we have a family and a home," he continued. "How do we separate this? And it was hard. We went to virtual counseling, we did a lot of things. But eventually I was like, this is a moment where I need to decide, is my happiness important? And once I made that decision, I said, you know, we are going to have to break up."

Brown said there was "luckily no cheating," confirming the two are still "good friends."

The Chrisley Knows Best star announced on Sept. 15 via Instagram that she and her fiancé "decided to call it quits" nearly two years after getting engaged.

"You’ve all been wondering...so here it is: Oh how I wish this smile was on my face and that infectious laugh was spewing out of my body right now...but sadly it’s not. Nic and I have decided to call it quits," Chrisley wrote, alongside a photo from their engagement photo shoot.

"There’s no hatred between the two of us...and in all honesty...that makes saying goodbye even harder. We have nothing but love, respect, and admiration for one another but it’s time for us to move forward individually," she continued.

Chrisley added that while "these past 3 years have been some of the best years of my life," she is choosing "to trust that God has a far greater purpose for my life."

Kufrin and Yrigoyen, who met on season 14 of The Bachelorette, went their separate ways in August. The pair, who got engaged on the show, were together for two years.

The former Bachelorette confirmed the split on the podcast she cohosts with Rachel Lindsay, Bachelor Happy Hour.

Addressing months of speculation surrounding their relationship, Kufrin said, "I don’t think it’s going to come as a shock to anyone, but Garrett and I have decided to end our engagement."

"We went on this crazy TV show over two years ago in hopes of finding love, and we were lucky enough that we did," Kufrin continued. "We really, truly did. The star of My Big Fat Fabulous Life revealed the "uncomfortable" news that she and her fiancé were no longer engaged after she learned that Severino had been with another woman.

In a lengthy May 21 Instagram post, Thore wrote, "Chase and I are no longer engaged. After experiencing a lot of ups and downs and still living apart, Chase reconnected with a woman with whom he has had a long history.

She then revealed, "Chase recently told me this information and the fact that it had resulted in a pregnancy. Chase will be a father in October."

Severino also announced the news on his own Instagram page.

"I don't even know where/how to start," he wrote in a screenshot from his Notes app. "I am very excited to announce I am expecting a child in the fall. Please see Whitney's post for details."

He added, "I have nothing but love and respect for Whitney and our time together. Thank you for always supporting us. As we now go our separate ways, I ask for privacy for Whitney, myself, and the mother of my child who wishes to remain anonymous."

The Today show contributor and her fiancé of two years announced their split on May 17.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, Martin said the coronavirus pandemic "has taken a toll on so many aspects of life" — including her four-year long-distance relationship with the private equity firm managing partner.
