After leaving Walford, former EastEnders star Dean Gaffney is currently looking for love on Celebs Go Dating.

But the Robbie Fowler actor's quest for love got off to a rocky start on Monday night's episode (February 24) when he was awkwardly pied off.

And to make matters worse, after his rejection the infamous Eastenders 'doof doof' played.

Dean had tried his best to chat-up singleton Martine at the mixer, saying: "I don't think you can really get to know anyone in this environment. I think it would be nice to take this conversation further, if you so choose to go out after this venue. Are you up for it? Do you want to go out for drinks?"

Martine then smiled and looked him up and down before replying: "I think on this opportunity I'll probably say no." The let down was made more brutal by the 'doof doof' theme music playing.

But proving he has a sense of humour, Dean's response was to tell Martine you "must be a Corrie fan", before a gentlemanly goodbye wishing her "all the very best".

Fans of the show are already hailing Dean as the highlight on Twitter.

Earlier this month Dean responded to reports that he had been written out of Eastenders due to his off-screen behaviour.

Admitting his mistakes Gaffney said: "During my time in the public eye there have been a lot of kiss-and-tells about me.

"I have a self-destruct button and people can't understand why I press it. I have no idea why I pressed it. I think EastEnders just thought enough is enough – and I don't blame them."

He continued: "Sometimes in life you have to hold your hands up and admit what you've done wrong and own your s**t. That's my next journey...".

Celebs Go Dating airs on E4.
