Chance of freezing rain Wednesday morning prompts winter weather advisory in KC metro
The Kansas City metropolitan area is under a winter weather advisory for Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
A light drizzle, which could develop into freezing rain, is expected to start falling at 3 a.m. Wednesday and continuing into late morning. This could lead to ice accumulating on Interstate 70 and U.S. 36, among other roads, according to the NWS.
Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to 31 degrees before warming up to 40 later Wednesday.
Ice south of U.S. 36 should melt in late afternoon, the NWS said. However, some elevated roadways, particularly bridges, are expected to be slick throughout the day, posing a hazard to drivers.
The weather advisory is in effect as far west as Newton, Kansas, and as far east as the Missouri-Illinois border.
